Fall 2006 requirements: 8 credits
Spring 2007 requirements: 6 credits
Attendance at our (sometimes) weekly meetings afterschool on Wednesdays in room 259 is not required to maintain active membership in our club. As long as the required number of credits is completed by the end of the semester, you will receive active transcript credit for all your volunteering work!
Go to our Google Group mailing list site (http://groups.google.com/group/MakeADifference) and click "Join Group" near the top of the page to subscribe to our new posts - all new posts in our blog will be sent to our entire mailing list via email. You can also subscribe to our blog through the RSS feed button located on the side of this page. It is very important for members to check email accounts frequently because our club communicates and organizes events mainly through emails.
All new events will be posted on our news blog and emailed to our members as soon as we get the details polished off with the volunteer directors, so subscribe to keep up to date on the latest events! We often have limits on the number of volunteers we can bring to each event, so always sign up as early as possible!
Send all volunteer sign ups to makeadifferenceclub@gmail.com with the appropriate subject line and required information in the body of the message. We will indicate the specifics in each information post, as the details change with each individual event.
You can find all our important club related downloads (waivers, forms to fill out, maps, etc.) at this site. We will make it clear in our blog posts when volunteers are required to print waivers or forms to turn in for upcoming events, so this is a good link to keep handy!
Check out our old news blog at http://lowell-is-mad.blogspot.com to catch up on all our past events.
If you ever have any questions, feel free to leave a comment on our posts here on our blog or contact us through email at makeadifferenceclub@gmail.com (please include your name and reg in all inquiries!) and we'll get back to you ASAP.
We look forward to enlisting your help in fulfilling our goal of making a difference in our community!

Sunday volunteers must arrive at the water station to help set up and to sign in with an officer by no later than 7:15 am on Sunday. I still have not heard back about the end time of the Sunday volunteer shift, but this event should be over by noon-ish. I will hopefully have the exact times by tomorrow and will send out another email as soon as I get the information (sorry about this everyone!). This event will be worth around five (5) credits, though it may be more or less depending on the number of hours worked.
We are responsible for a Gatorade station near the 8th mile of the marathon located on Great Highway (La Playa Street) near the Noriega/Ortega/Pacheco area. Please refer to the following maps for more detailed instrcutions (we are at the "W" near the number "8" on the white map):
You can download more detailed maps here and here.
Our Gatorade station is the fourth Gatorade Station (8.25 miles) from the beginning of the race and the fifth station (10.25 miles) for the return lap of the race. There will be a water station about 100 feet from where our Gatorade station will be located (the water station is closer to Noriega end and we are closer to the Pacheco end), so when you show up, please make sure to ask the people around you if you are at the water station or the Gatorade station because it might be easy to confuse the two stations since they are both in such close proximity of each other!
Please arrive between 7:00 am and 7:15 am because the supplies are scheduled to be dropped off at the locations around 7:00 am.
Dress warmly, wear closed toed shoes, and do not wear anything that you do not mind getting wet and dirty because there is a very high probability that you will get wet in the line of duty!
We will keep you updated with any additional information we may receive about this shift in the coming days. Please do not hesistate to contact us with any additional questions you may have!

All volunteers must show up at the t-shirt tent set up close to the windmill on Martin Luther King Drive (near Lincoln Drive) by no later than 12 pm on Saturday to pick up a volunteer shirt and to sign in with an officer.
The location is circled in orange on both maps. Your can download a more detailed map here - the tent will be somewhere near the bottom of the house, next to the windmill. If you have trouble finding our meeting area on Saturday, please give me (Karen) a call on my cell (415-830-2371) and I will try my best to give you better directions. It might be cold on Saturday, so dress please dress in layers!
This event will end around 3:30-4 pm, and will be worth four (4) credits.
Hey everyone! I have some updated details about the Saturday shift of the Kaiser Half Marathon this weekend. On Saturday, we will be stuffing goodie bags for the runners in Golden Gate Park from 12 pm - 4 pm, so this event will be worth four (4) credits. There will be a ton of bags (over 8000!) to stuff, so the volunteer coordinators need all the help they can get!
I will hopefully have the details (times of shifts, etc.) for the Sunday shift by tomorrow. The Sunday shift will start around 6:30 am, but I am unsure of the end time at the moment.
If you need to change the day you signed up to volunteer at, let us know ASAP.
Please send us an email at makeadifferenceclub@gmail.com by no later than Wednesday, January 31st to make changes/sign up!
Hey MAD Clubbers, I hope you all did well on your finals!
The first event of the Spring 2007 semester will be the Kaiser Permanente Half Marathon on Sunday, February 4th. We're going to be at the finish line, helping out with organizing everything going on there and handing out goodie bags to the 8000 runners who will be participating in the marathon! There's going to be a ton of things going on all at once, so this event will be full of energy and lots of fun!
We also need some volunteers to help out with stuffing all the goodie bags on Saturday, February 3rd at the same location in Golden Gate Park. I'll have more detailed directions and (hopefully) a map up next week once we work all the details out with the volunteer coordinators, so don't worry too much about the exact locations yet.
All volunteers will receive a goodie bag and a super cool race t-shirt from Kaiser!
Because we're not sure of the end times of this event yet, we don't know how many credits volunteering at the Kaiser Half Marathon (either day) will be worth, but we'll be sure to let you all know ASAP. For the spring semester, six (6) credits are required to maintain active membership in MAD. Just a reminder - even though you may have enough credits to roll over from the Fall semester to cover the six required for the Spring, you will still need to volunteer at least one event in the Spring in order to receive active credit. There will not be as many events in the Spring as in the Fall semester, so please seize all the chances you can to rack up those credits while you still can!
There is currently no limit on the number of volunteers we can bring to the Kaiser Half Marathon, so take advantage of this event to kick off your Spring semester credits! This event will most likely be worth 4-5 credits, so if you volunteer on both Saturday and Sunday, your credit requirements for the Spring will be completed.
Please email us at makeadifferenceclub@gmail.com with Kaiser Marathon (SAT/SUN) (indicating whether you want to sign up for the Saturday or the Sunday shift) in the subject line and your name and reg in the body of the message. The last day to sign up will be Wednesday, January 31st at 6 pm.
If you signed up with us in person at one of our previous club meetings, please email us to sign up again. Sorry if this causes any inconvenience, but we want to keep all our volunteer sign ups in one place for organizational purposes!
We will keep you updated as we receive more information/details about this event.
Thanks!
